Oh, Hey

I’m Stephen Klinck, a freelance creative director and conceptual copywriter based in London. Across a range of media, that’s meant doing the heavy lifting and selling to C-suite clients. Not to mention being comfortable whether the budget’s a million pounds or 20p. Sometimes I’m working independently with design support or pairing with an art director. Sometimes I’m leading teams. I try to keep concepts simple. I try not to take myself too seriously. I try to write in threes. Over the years I’ve won a few awards, and a number of pitches, with countless talented people. Some of those people still speak to me.

Work

I’m usually busy creating campaigns for the UK, EMEA, the US and other global markets. I’ve covered everything from integrated to digital—and all the buzzwords in between.

“We got Stephen in for a couple of weeks last November. He stayed for 6 months and I wish it could have been longer.”

Side Projects

They’re not all exactly side projects, but I can’t bring myself to say “side hustle” with a straight face. I’ve also written and reported for Esquire, Men’s Journal and the New York Daily News.

My Story

My dad was a colonel in the Army. His dad was a colonel in the Army. Naturally, I decided to go into advertising. Originally, I’m from North Carolina. But I’ve been living in London for the last seven years. Two places with wildly different opinions on tea. My wife and I moved to London from New York, where we met. She’s English. After we got married, we finally made the jump across the pond. I’ve been annoying everyone with my American twang ever since.
